General Chemistry Analyses
Below is a list of the general chemistry analyses HydroAnalytical runs along with a brief description of the analysis and the method used. The starred tests are non-certified methods.
Alkalinity
This test is a measure of how well a sample can neutralize acid. Using Standard Method 2320 B we can find Hydroxide, Carbonate, and Bicarbonate Alkalinity.
Ammonia Nitrogen
Through Hach Method 10205 we are able to quantify the amount of Ammonia Nitrogen in a sample.
Anions by IC
Using Standard Method 4110 B we are able to provide values for Bromide, Chloride, Fluoride, Nitrate, Nitrite, Ortho-Phosphate, and Sulfate in water.
Atrazine*
Through EPA Method 4670 we are able to quantify the amount of Atrazine in an aqueous sample.
Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD)
Using Standard Method 5210 B we are able to determine the amount of molecular oxygen used in a five day period.
We are also able to perform CBOD which excludes nitrogenous demand.
Chlorine, Total Residual
Through Standard Method 4500-Cl G we are able to quantify the amount of Chlorine in a sample.
Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)
Using Hach Method 8000 we can determine the amount of oxygen needed to chemically break down pollutants in a water sample.
Conductivity
With Standard Method 2510 B we are able to determine how well a sample allows electricity to be carried through it.
Dissolved Oxygen
Using Standard Method 4500-O G we are able to determine the amount of dissolved oxygen within a sample.
Hardness
Using Standard Method 2340 C we are able to determine the amount of calcium and magnesium in a water sample.
Hexavalent Chromium
Using Hach Method 8023 the concentration of Cr(VI) in a water sample can be determined.
Metals
Through EPA 200.7 Rev 4.4 the dissolved and/or total concentrations of different cations (Ag, Al, As, Ba, Be, Ca, Cd, Cr, Co, Cu, Fe, Pb, Li, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Ni, K, Se, Sn, Sr, Tl, Va, Zn).
Nitrate + Nitrite as N
Using Hach Method 10206 as it is included in Hach 10242 we can determine the combined amount of nitrate and nitrite in a sample.
Oil and Grease
Through EPA Method 1664 A Stepsaver Total and Hydrocarbon Oil and Grease concentrations can be determined.
pH
With Standard Method 4500 H+B the pH of a sample can be determined. pH is a measure of the intensity of the acidity of a solution through hydrogen ion activity.
Settleable Solids
With Standard Method 2540 F the volume of solids that settle over a defined period of time is quantified.
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
Through Standard Method 2540 C the concentration of dissolved solids in an aqueous solution can be determined.
Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN)
Using Hach 10242 the sum of organic nitrogen and ammonia can be found.
Total Organic Carbon (TOC)
By Standard Method 5310 B we can measure the organic compounds within a water sample. Total carbon and inorganic carbon can also be found.
Total Phosphorus (TP)
Through Hach Method 10210 the concentration of all forms of phosphorus including organic and inorganic phosphates and orthophosphate ions.
Total Solids
With Standard Method 2540 B we are able to determine the total concentration of solids within an aqueous solution.
Total Suspended Solids (TDS)
Through Standard Method 2540 D the concentration of suspended solids in liquid can be determined.
Turbidity*
Using Standard Method 2130 B the clarity can be quantified by measuring the particles in a water sample.
Additional Analyses
Along with the above analyses we may be able to run other analyses. We also partner with several other laboratories with other testing abilities.
